SEMARANG, NMN-The implementation of the new smart passenger and freight cargo system in the Port of Tanjung Emas, Semarang brings a breath of fresh air to the improvement services of the safety and security in the port.
The eagerness of the Harbormaster Office and Port Authority (KSOP) is obvious through the availability of newest facilities and infrastructures at the port such as check-in and check-out counters, metal detectors, x-ray machines, scales, and others.
The head of KSOP Class I of Port of Tanjung Emas Semarang, Ahmad Wahid said that the neat layout at port helps the officers in controlling the embarkation and debarkation both freight cargo and passengers.
“We provide the passengers with trolley and facility for people with disability. The socialization had been done since 2015, and the operator happily welcomed this port sterilization project,” said Ahmad Wahid when accompanied the Director-General of Sea Transportation.
According to Ahmad Wahid, given that the Christmas and New Year holiday that is approaching, the implementation of the new system is considered a good step.
Wahid also urged all stakeholders including PT Pelindo III to support other aspects, from the human resources to the maintenance so that the new system run well.
“Not only do we apply the boarding pass-based system for the passengers, the baggage tag, the schedule of ships, we also deploy the system for cargo freight such as the stevedoring and cargodoring at the port,” said Wahid.
Furthermore, before entering the Roro ships, the truck must hold and report the cargo manifest and statement/declaration from the ship operator the truck does not bring any hazardous goods.
“(The manifest) is vital to prevent the incident at sea. The system can also record the size and weight of the vehicle on board, so the stability of the ship can be controlled,” Wahid said.
